Boston Red Sox Blew It in Baltimore

The epic September collapse for the Boston Red Sox is complete.

New England's baseball team just lost to the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4-3. The Sox were up by a run until the very end of the game and needed a win to stay alive for the AL Wild Card. After an hour and a half rain delay, in the bottom of the 9th, the Orioles added two runs to win the game.

Sox starter Jon Lester pitched a solid six innings, giving up just two earned runs. Unfortunately, closer Jonathan Papelbon blew the save in the ninth.

The Tampa Bay Rays have won the last playoff spot in the AL after battling back from a six run deficit against the New York Yankees. Tampa Bay won in dramatic fashion. A ninth inning single shot homer by pinch hitter Dan Johnson brought the Rays to a tie and they eventually won in the 12th inning.

The Red Sox were in the driver's seat in the American League throughout most of the summer but a horrific last month left them with a decent but not good enough final regular season record of 90-72.
