Ron Paul Takes Message of Limited Government to Maine

Texas Congressman Ron Paul, a contender for the Republican Presidential nomination, took his message of limited, responsible government to Maine on Friday and Saturday. Maine holds caucuses from February 4-10 and 24 delegates are at stake.

During the two-day campaign visit, Rep. Paul held rallies across the state. On Friday, he spoke to a packed church in Bangor, fired up students at Colby College in Waterville and met with locals in Lewiston in the evening. On Saturday, Rep. Paul spoke to large crowds at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham and attended an event at Alfred's Town Hall, where he picked up an endorsement from Maine State Representative Aaron Libby of Waterboro. During his stop in downtown Freeport, he snagged the endorsement of Linda Bean, an LL Bean heiress and owner of the Linda Bean lobster roll chain.

GOP rival Mitt Romney won the Maine caucuses back in 2008. However, Rep. Paul has a decent shot at picking up his first win of the primary season in Maine. The state's residents have an independent, libertarian streak and often back anti-establishment candidates. For example, current GOP Governor Paul LePage leans libertarian and like Paul, supported the Tea Party movement. Paul met with Governor LePage during his recent visit.

In the clip below, which was taken in Bangor yesterday, you can watch Rep. Paul speak out against the Patriot Act, endless foreign wars and bank bailouts.
