Michael Brennan Will Be Portland's Next Mayor

Former State Senator Michael Brennan will be the future Mayor of Portland, Maine.

After a few rounds of winnowing out the candidates, due to Portland's "instant runoff voting" system, Brennan emerged as the winner.

"Thank you to my supporters, the residents of Portland and everyone in the State of Maine Room for all their help in this historic election," Brennan wrote on Twitter.

As we had reported on the Exception, a Brennan win was the most likely outcome. He had the strongest support in the polls and the most big-name endorsements.

Brennan is the first popularly elected Mayor of Portland in 88 years.
