Maine Unions: Tax Wall Street

Maine union members in the public and private sectors are planning to hold a "Rally to Tax Wall Street and Create Jobs" in Augusta on Thursday, October 13th at 12:30 p.m.

The workers are demanding that the "Wall Street executives responsible for crashing the U.S. economy pay up and begin to fix the mess they’ve made of the mortgage market and the economy," according to a statement by the Maine AFL-CIO.

The workers will also call on Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to support a "financial transaction tax" which they figure would supply $312 billion in revenue. The union workers believe there is a long list of infrastructure projects in Maine that could move ahead with additional revenues.

The rally point will be between the State House and Cross Building.
