Aroostook County Empowerment Zone Secures $499k USDA Grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded the Aroostook County Empowerment Zone with a grant for $499,000, according to Maine Congressman Mike Michaud. The funds will be used by the Northern Maine Development Commission to develop and execute a ten-year Strategic Plan for the region.
“The Empowerment Zone program is an important part of the economic development of Aroostook County,” said Michaud. “The USDA has consistently provided rural Maine communities with resources and opportunities for economic expansion and development.
