Michaud Blasts USTR’s Remarks on Free Trade Agreements

The top ambassador of the US Trade Representative (USTR), Ron Kirk, recently stated that his agency would like to move forward with the Panama and Colombia Free Trade Agreements (FTA) “sooner rather than later.”
This prompted Maine Congressman Mike Michaud to blast the plan on the House floor today.
“Why would we be moving forward on a trade agreement negotiated by President Bush during a time when our economy is struggling?” said Michaud in a statement. “This makes no sense whatsoever. It does not represent a new model on trade. It represents a recycled model that doesn’t work.”
