Gun Control Advocates Targeting Maine Democrats

Gun rights advocates have donated significantly more money to influence state-level laws than their opponents, according to a new report by the National Institute on Money in State Politics.

Organizations that are opposed to gun regulation contributed $2.3 million while organizations that favored gun regulations donated just $74,546 during the five year period of analysis between 2003–2008.

Michigan got the most money from gun advocates at $303,900. The National Rifle Association (NRA) and its state and local NRA affiliates provided $1.7 million, or three-quarters of the pro-gun money nationwide.

Illinois got the most money from gun regulation groups at $29,750. The Brady Campaign for Gun Violence and the Brady Voter Education Fund gave $42,000 across America, which is 55 percent of the money given by proponents of gun regulation.

The Senate Democratic Campaign Committee in Maine ranked tenth in donations from the gun regulation lobby. However, that total was just $1,050 over five years.
