Racing Maine Lobsters in Georgia
Animal activists be damned. I'm adding the lobster races in Aiken, Ga., to the list of things I want to see before I'm 35.
City residents throw a huge party and "reunion" on the first Friday of May, featuring local beer, food, music and rides. But the big draw is the coupe d'homard. And this year, thousands of people paid $5 each to witness the 25th running of the event.
Each of the thoroughbred racing lobsters comes from Maine. One spectator even brought his own 4 ΒΌ-pounder (named Percival Baxter after former Republican Governor Percival Proctor Baxter), driving more than 1,000 miles from Maine to Georgia to watch -- but no....
