Maine Dealing with Dentist Shortage

Maine's current shortage of dentists and dental hygienists will become a larger problem unless more students enter the profession, according to the University of New England dental hygiene clinic.
"The need for increased access to dental care is great in Maine. Every county in Maine comes up short when it comes to providing dental care." said Kneka Smith, UNE's Associate Dean for Planning. "Poor oral health is associated with health conditions such as stroke, heart disease, diabetes and risks for women who are pregnant."
