Maine Legislature Debating Ban on Racial Profiling

Maine legislators in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee held a public hearing today on a bill to ban racial profiling by the police.
LD 1442, which is sponsored by Sen. Lawrence Bliss of Cumberland, would prohibit law enforcement officials from "relying, to any degree, on race, ethnicity, national origin or religion in selecting which individuals to subject to an investigatory activity."
Race could still be used by the police to describe suspects of a specific crime. Read the full details of the bill online.....
