Volunteers Needed to Help Kill Invasive Reed in Abagadasset River
Volunteers are needed to help remove a patch of invasive reeds called Phragmites from the Abagadasset River.
Coordinated by the Friends of Merrymeeting Bay, the project will take place on August 28th, from 10 am – 2pm in Bowdoinham.
Volunteers will use the “clip and drip” approach, which involves cutting and bagging the seed heads and then squirting a dose of herbicide down each hollow stem. The method is labor intensive but effective because the herbicide is only applied directly to individual plants.
An experienced, licensed applicator will be present to assist with this effort.
Interested volunteers can contact Misty Gorski at 737-8508 or fomb@suscom-maine.net.
