Maine's Badass Poster for Hunters

As we reported on the Exception, Maine has banned firewood from other states because foreign bugs such as the Asian longhorned beetle and the emerald ash borer have the potential to destroy our forests.

To help get the message out to hunters, the Department of Conservation and the Department of Agriculture have teamed up to create a badass poster about the bug threat.

It may not be as iconic as the "Smokey the Bear" campaign but the copy is quite catchy. The poster reminds hunters they can bring their guns, ammo and camo on their trip to the woods but the bugs in out-of-state firewood don't belong in Maine.

"Hunters and fishermen are a group we haven’t yet specifically targeted, and we believe they share our concerns about the welfare of the forests,” said State Horticulturist Ann Gibbs, with the Maine Department of Agriculture. “Lots of people in the state are concerned with the issue of invasive insects, and we hope this will resonate with hunting camp owners."

You can download the full version of the poster online.
