Mother Nature Delivers Early Christmas Present to Sugarloaf

Thanks to an early season snow storm, Sugarloaf has already opened a good chunk of the skiing terrain around its Superquad/Spillway core.

Over the last week, Maine's biggest ski mountain received over a foot of snow. The mountain has also continued its snow-making assault, with nine trails receiving the human treatment today. That brings the total number of open trails to 30. Although the famous "Snowfields" aren't close to open yet, during some years, skiers have to wait until after the New Year before the snow really starts to accumulate at the mountain's peak.

Across Maine, other top ski resorts are getting ready for Christmas week, when many families hit the slopes for the first time. Sunday River's snow-making teams have helped bring its early season open tally to 44 trails and ten lifts. Saddleback, which also received a good dumping from last week's storm, opens on December 16th.
