September 11 Is Maine Apple Sunday
Maine Governor Paul LePage has issued a public proclamation ahead of Maine Apple Sunday, urging residents to observe how the apple industry benefits the state.
The special day for Maine's apple farmers is held on the second Sunday of September, and falls on September 11 this year. It is meant to mark the start of the Maine apple harvest.
There should be lots of fun activities at local family farms.
"This day is designed for people to experience the buzz of activity at their local apple orchard," Steve Meheus, president of the Maine State Pomological Society said. “We invite individuals and families to visit their local apple orchards and take part in the traditional apple harvest by picking their own apples or going on a hayride around the orchard and discovering how nutritious apples are harvested.”
