The Golden Summer in Film

In the 1970s, there was a revolution in film; a revolution brought about by a new type of movie, not in essence a new genre, but a new way of making and selling films. It was the modern Blockbuster.

Before the revolution, film was the best it’s ever been. Critics called it the Golden Age, with hits spurned by the innovation of late 1960s movies like “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The Graduate,” and “Easy Rider.” Here was a smarter, bolder type of director-driven movie that gave way to some of the most ground-breaking movies in history, such films as “The Godfather,” “Raging Bull,” and “Annie Hall”.
