Maine parents are some of the best in America when it comes to preparing their kids for success at school, according to a new report by the nonprofit Save the Children.
Maine ranked 5th in the nation, beat only by other New Englanders in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont.
State scores were based on reading levels of 4th grade public school students, how often parents read to their young children, nursery school, preschool and kindergarten enrollment levels, and the mental and emotional health status of mothers.
