When Bumble Bee Foods announced it was closing its seafood plant in Prospect Harbor in April, the United States lost its last domestic sardine cannery.
Luckily, life goes on. Today it was announced that Live Lobster Co. Inc., a large Massachusetts-based distributor of Maine lobsters, has agreed to buy the facility from Bumble Bee Foods. It will expand its lobster supply, sales and distribution business in the region and reportedly create up to 40 new jobs in 2011.
Some sort of a deal was likely, considering that Maine's Governor got involved after the closing received national media attention.
